Chigasaki Style: Campagnolo Shamal Ultra 2 Way Fit.
by: Naoki Sakai

Campagnolo’s lightweight tubeless ready wheels now have a wider rim.  If you want some serious alloy climbing hoops for your lightweight bicycle, then Campagnolo’s Shamal is your top notch option.  The latest model brings with it a wide rim profile along with the ‘2 way fit’ which allows the wheelset to run a tubeless setup.

The updated C17 rim now measures 17 mm internally-a 2 mm increase over the C15 generation rim,and provides a better platform for the 25 and 28mm tires which are increasingly common with all riders, from pros to amateurs.

Campa offers the Shamal in a conventional clincher format, but have opted for the 2 way fit for the added versatility of going tubeless.  Whether you go tubeless, or clincher, like I do on my DeRosa, the overall weight of 1,475 grams per set is a plus, and I can attest that these hoops are great for the road, hills for quick, comfortable and functional rides.  For myself, I love these wheels. Just the right amount of bang for the buck…er…, I mean, yen!!

The Shamal looks great, as well, with its distinctive Mega G3 spoke pattern that is superior in design, imo, to any other wheel maker.  It provides optimum rigidity and power transfer, making for a highly smooth and efficient ride. The ‘MoMag’ system has an all no drilling holes into the alloy rim bed so it doesn’t compromise structural rigidity, as the spokes lock in and they don’t lose tension or rotate after extended use. It goes for 141950yen+TAX, here at Y’s Road Chigasaki.  Also available is the Zonda C17 at 59075yen+TAX and the Khamsin at 26350yen+TAX.
